Well, we pulled out of Malibu yesterday morning. The swell was fading and the wind was starting to come up. After 2 full days of scoring, we figured it was time to get out while the getting was good. Short our cameraman, having fired him the day before, we found ourselves with a much lighter and streamlined operation. We drove down to Venice where we spent the day cruising around, and also stopped by Mollusk surf shop. We had the opportunity to meet Mr. Chad Malibu Marshall, who turned out to be a cool, straight up nice guy. Mollusk was a sweet shop and it was a pleasure seeing the place. Skating around the walk along Venice beach we did some people watching and also found a poke spot. Wasn't the best but it brought back many fond memories of the poke bowls from Malama market in Haliewa that we love so much. As the sun started to set, Nick switched into full freestyle mode- using the water hose at a gas station to take a shave and shower. After that he was dropped off at a bar to meet a lady friend and I continued on to find a covert space to set up camp. The wagon allows us to put all the boards inside the car (even the 10' noseriders) and also have room for at least one person to crash. With a total of 6 boards in the car, plus all our other gear it's pretty awesome to have the extra space to stretch out. I met up with our friend Kevin Butler and we had a beer and talked about old times and good friends. Kevin does marketing design for Apple and had a lot of insightful thoughts that he passed along, many thanks. I slipped back to the wagon and crashed out waking up this AM short one Crow but well rested and looking forward to heading to San Onofre. Now if I can only find Nick... Hard to do when he dosn't have a cell phone...

Malibu Cruzen
So we have been kinda slow blogging for the first few days... sorry. Its has been one adventure after another. We finally are here in Malibu at the moment scoring some perfect logging waves. The road trip started off wobbly as the tire guy forgot to bolt on the right front tire. Next we rolled into Ventura as the breaks were going out. Souper Dave was an excellent host as we managed to get pretty loose on Saturday night at the bar he works at. Sunday was spent in the Sears Parking lot, then early beers with friends. We ended up styled out in Solimar, drinking with all the Jims, trading boards and mucking around in the playfull surf. After the beers we were not about to jump back into Black Betty, so we polished off another 30 pack and talked story.
After a restless night of camera man snoring we made it to the BU. Perfect logging surf for the flock. Waylon had met up with us and was locking into some nice little peelers. Parking lot good times, people watching all day. If you see Black Betty around dont be afraid to go up and try out a boards. People seem to have been enjoying the sluttyness of our boards.
Today we woke in our mobile apartment to some squaking crows, a bit seedy after another 30 pack dissapeard in the campsite darkness. We decided to UPS our cameraman back to SC as sometimes excess baggage can hinder a stealthy traveler.
Plenty of interesting characters along the way stop by Black Betty for a chat or a surf if you see us around.
Here is a pic of Black Betty getting her brakes on. The one below is Nick hung over in the parking lot waiting for the diagnosis.

Crowlifornia
CROWLIFORNIA ROADTRIP 1: PRE-ROAD from L.A. on Vimeo.
Crowlifornia has begun.... The wheels are falling off, the brakes don't work, flat tires... and Nick doesn't have any shoes again.
Quick update
Quick blog update. We're currently in Ventura and we're having problems with the brakes on Black Betty. Nick is convinced that we don't need to worry about it- we'll get the fixed in the morning. Currently we're drinking beers and the concern about the brakes on the car are fading fast.
A quick recap of the last couple nights. Here's a picture of Welzie busting out on a board...

Another great night
Welzie picked a good evening to stay home. Working till 2:30 AM is always hard on the soul. Glossing didn't go well, had to sand off glosses on two boards. Hopefully will re-shoot them tonight... Also had a flip flop blow out, sweet when the floor is covered with slow setting gloss resin. Nice bomb on one board though. Tired...

What were you doing Tuesday night?
Sleeping? We weren't. 1 am tag-team board sanding session. Crunch time getting everything ready for the roadtrip. Nothing like sanding dust in your eyes late at night. Don't let your kids grow up to be board builders!

A quick recap of Friday night
Friday was Welzies Birthday... To celebrate we had a pretty awesome party with many of our favorite heads coming out of the woodwork... Here's a clip of Welzie in the mix
And here's another clip of Carl giving Two Crows rider Kaizer Soze a freestyle haircut. Please note that amazing mustache Geoff Weers is sporting. The party started getting out of hand after this point... We lost a day's worth of work yesterday due to hangovers. Back to board building tomorrow.
4 Days till the Crowlifornia Road Trip
We got about 4 days and 7 boards to make before we head south for the the CROWLIFORNIA ROAD TRIP. All we know is were heading South, looking for waves and good times. No plans, no worries. Expect nothing and gain everything. Freestyle. here is a random resin endused creative blunder by Welzie...

Boards are looking superb though
If you can get past the chatter of Welzie working, you'll see that the boards are coming out really nice
Locked out
We had a little problem at the shop today when the owner apparently forgot the four digit combo to the lock... here's how we resolved it.
Welzie not working
An old pellet gun was discovered laying around the A51 compound. Along with this WWII era mask, Welzie reenacts some historic moment that probably didn't happen...
